The Run Series Episode 14 Chioma, 52 Our 14th Episode in the Run Series It was a slow Thursday and I called and convinced her to jabó work. I could tell she was apprehensive. Great girl and a tough career Executive like her, to miss work and follow man, on a Thursday… Her worry only made her appear even more sexy to me. A girl that’s as driven and successful as her in a male dominated tech field can only be just as passionate in other areas - fingers crossed. We had a great time buka hopping all over Lagos Island and finally ended up back at that ice cream place in the hotel on Ozumba. Contrary to the tough Executive exterior, and my Ambassador status, we were like teenagers in the ice cream shop. A moment of sadness flashed through my mind when I thought back to Nkechi and I, and Ices Parlor in Surulere, that was like a hundred years ago… all those good years we shared before our marriage careened off the rails into the inferno of a most bitter divorce that it is today. Hmmm.  Who...

Bisi

The Run Series Episode 13 … Bisi, 50 My son was home for the mid terms. I can’t believe he’s only been gone for a month. Oh! How I missed him so… He’s so tall now. And confident. And mature. And maybe even too mature. _lol_. Just this morning when we had our weekend call, he was asking me who sent me flowers for valentines. And why I go out every night to take a certain call around 8pm. Wo, this boy should let me rest Jo. His father left years ago, and his older brother is off to Canada for college. Now, after 5 years of him away in boarding school, and me all alone in this town, someone has finally shown up to deal with my walls and my defenses. How do I explain to this boy that now, in this matter of love and emotions and valentines and flowers, I’m just as clueless as he is? I’m not even sure if this man pursued me. One day, he’s my client and we’re chatting, the next, he’s sending me lunch and we’re meeting up for dinners and movie dates, and now my world revolves around him! Thoug...

Ubong - The Run Series

Image
I don’t know how it happened, but the signs were all there. Muffled chuckles and giggles. Her phone glowing in the dark. A new spring to her step. She had started to take time with her clothes and make up again. She was dieting and running just as much. Something, or someone, was putting color in her life again. Apparently, they had met at a work event. Something super random, given that he wasn’t in her circle - work or otherwise - but his international flight had been cancelled and rather than go back home, he had taken the decision to stay nearer the airport, at the inn her office was using for the Christmas party. She wasn’t very social so she had wandered to the pool where she had bumped into him. The connection was instant. They talked late into the night and even though they didn’t exchange numbers, she never wanted that night to end. It had been a while she’d had such cerebral conversations around women, empowerment, poetry and music with another man. She knew this had the...

Dagbolu - The Run Series

Image
Dagbolu  Here’s the 11th in our Run Series Enjoy Dagbolu - 49 I hate these New Years.  All this ‘new year new me’ bullshit.  And this 2022 has just been the worst.  What with the virus and the isolation and the more than ample time for people to be religious and introspective. And then, there's Mummy GO issuing everyone a visa to hell. Rubbish .  First it was the Singer. The Love Of My Life (LOML)! After going to all her shows and smiling through endless hours of music I didn’t care for; all the time I spent cultivating the relationship, and now she tells me that this New Year, if we can’t be more than shag buddies, she was going to give herself a chance at a happiness with permanence. Without me. Nonsense . And then there was the high flier who was made Partner in her firm, and took me on an all expense celebratory debauchery to London. Even if all that time was in quarantine, there is nothing we didn’t do. And there is nowhere we didn’t...

Waldorf - The Run Series/DjBiso

Image
Here’s the 10th in our Run Series Enjoy Waldorf - 47 God! What is happening to me! I almost barged into Dora’s room knowing fully well she was having her bath. Let me tell you about Dora... Dora is in her 20s, nice face, firm and curvy,  and evidently in awe of me. And in all the 3 years she had lived with us, she had been a decent and hardworking housemaid. Don’t blame me. This was my fourth attempt in like 2 weeks to make love to Sarah and getting shut down. If it is not one thing, it is the other. This morning, she just flat out told me to leave her alone. I am at my wits end. Because me, I like to nack! And I’m at that golden point in my late 40’s where my trifecta are in perfect sync. 1 - I have some time - thanks to Covid. 2 - I have small money. And 3 - with my diet and exercise, my energy level is epic! Anyway, Bayo says he’s coming out with Tosin and her friends for SNF. Fuck dipping a toe, this Independence Edition, I’m going to go out and drown in that fornication...

Temidire - The Run Series/DjBiso

Image
After a long hiatus Here’s the 9th in our Run Series Enjoy Temidire - 42 Indeed it has been a while that I have felt this way. So much energy bristling through me. Gbogbo ara mi ti dide! Gbenga has really got my nose wide open! He was so attentive. He was so kind. Patient and generous. And it might the hormones talking, but it felt like he wanted to take it further… I have thought of nothing but him since our chance meeting earlier today. I mean, we had communicated online for the longest time and flirted carefully, as married adults often do, but I was secure in the comfort that he was in Abuja and I was in London, and Corona - being the prophylactic that it has become, would make it impossible for us to be together. But alas… Corona, it is both a curse and cure. Uncle Tunze had contracted it from God-Knows-Where - that man will not stay in one place, and as his favourite niece, I had offered to come down and spend some time with him during post-recovery.  It was a lot of things f...

Uncle Tunze - The Run Series

Image
23.12.2020 Uncle Tunze After 14 days in quarantine in a sterile hotel, the last thing I wanted to do was go to another one. I just wanted to go home to the kids and see the Mrs. Indeed, Distance Makes The Heart Grow Fonder.  I had missed them terribly. But the call was urgent. His voice had heightened levels of panic. And fear. And he said he had been trying to reach me for 2 days now - I had switched off my phone. I was mad at the world for going on like nothing happened while I was holed up with a crippled lung and other chest issues. But Ik is my man. We have come a long way. Roommates in Uni, and we spent holidays at each others’ houses. He was family. He is family. My parents were the representatives of his late folks at his wedding. He was best man at my wedding and I am godfather to his kids. Getting to the hotel, I see that Ik had also called Ayo, Tunde, Tokunbo, and Wale - The War Council. This was serious. Apparently, a couple days ago, Toyin had taken a cursory look into...
